My experience in Peekskill New York. Hudson City Savings Bank. 10/25/2010
I awoke this morning with the residual thoughts and feelings of yesterday.
what happened yesterday. unfortunetley, their is a very real sense of racism
in Peekskill New york I am sure many experience these experienes every where.
but for me the best way i have come to direct the anger and pain is to write about it.
pain shared is pain lessened. This morning I came to realize why I isolate myself from
people , as I have decreased my interactions with people, its less likely that I will encounter
the morbid fabric of racism. why am I so effect by it I dont know but while I am releasing the
pain , hopefully I will one day realize why it affects me the way it does, but in the mean time I will continue to elevate the experiences from my thoughts to this paper.
Yesterday I entered the Bank as usual i proceeded to the bank representative, Ms. Eileen. I showed and shared with Ms. Eileen that a few checks had bounced , although I had made a deposit on the 13th of October . I then returned two days later to pay off the overdraft account. On October 15th I stood at the counter making a deposit with 700.00 in hand. I asked the teller " what is my payoff amount. The teller stated 24.49. I knew their where checks to be cashed, but was amazed that I only owed 24 dollars and change.
ok great I thought as I placed the other six hundred back in my pocketbook. Now a week or so later I recieve check bouncing fees. i didnt think their would be a problem for i have banked with hudson city forever. Ms. Elieen returns with docs in hand, earnestly she states Dorren denied the request, she went on to assure me that she informed ms. Doreen Bongar of the circumstances. I proceeded toward the teller area and asked for Doreen. I walked in her office as i asked why cant the fees be refunded, as I shared that I came in and asked the teller for my payoff balance. Dorren seemed as she had no interest as to what occured. I directed her to the computer so she could atleast make a effort to see my opinon. Body language expresses exactly how and what a person thinks of another. she looks at me and says " you should know your payoff amount." I responded that is why all these tellers are here to inform me of the correct information so i can payoff my account. so i picked up my bounced check slips, i looked at Dorren and thought and said, you adjust fees for those you want to. As I walk out the office, she yells " Diana close your account". what she really said was nigga deal with it. why would i close my account? I dont think my request was improper, especially because I was able to refer her to the computer where she could confirm the dates . It wasnt my intentions to get the teller in trouble, but if this error is avoided for the next customer nothings lost. and my funds are replaced. In the midst of the conversation Dorren refered me to the Cortlandt Town Center , Hudson City.stating they could help because my account was opened their. she must have dum negro etched in her brain. what can cortlandt do that the Banks V.P cannot do. On her desk it said Dorren whoever, Bank V.P. at this point I dont believe ignorant information submitted is a reflexion of the person recieving it, its a reflexion of the person giving it. I am not stupid nor dum so it must be the information being giving. I proceed up to Hudson City in Cortlandt , I ask for the Bank President, I was clear about who I asked for, out comes the bank manager, I share with her what occured, she states " I cant override this, Dooren is my boss. ok I wasnt asking to override dorrens decsion. Now I am filing a descrimination complaint for her bias statement. secondly, i requested the Presidents address and phone number and Doreen nor Whats her name had their numbers? who are these people accustom to dealing with. a Vp and a manager cannot give me the corporate or presidents contact information. I arrive home relax I locate the corporate number I call the corporate number. I am informed that Mr. Bill Lacalimito, Regional manager will return my call. Today is tuesdayOctober 26, 2010 @ 6:33pm still I recieve no call. Now initially Ms. Deanna Mowry offered me this number but I refused it. For I know any one that works beside Doreen , will take her side and possibily have no interest in what I and Ms. Eileen say happened. Either one of two things will happen. 1. I will be contacted politely the funds will be refunded with a apology or 2. A letter is already on its way in the mail stating they have closed my account. You see these people are predictable. They place no value in customer service for their practiced racism is their norm. I am hoping for the best professional approach from hudson City. but we will see if the Ghost of racism rears its ugly head.
